Cross Country Narrative

Ready...set BANG! We set off up the hill. But, out of the corner of my eye, I saw a glimpse of something yellow…

I ran up and over the lip of the hill and kept running. Up down and all around until I got to a valley. It was huge, with a massive slope into and out of it. “I really don’t want to do this” I said with NO enthusiasm. Suddenly I heard a low growling from behind me. I turned around, only to see a very hungry cheetah. “AH!” I screamed with fright . The cheetah growled and jumped at me, I moved out of the way. I looked at my watch, it was lunch time.

I sprinted faster than I ever had before! The cheetah was hot on my heals. I screeched past everybody. The cheetah was right behind me, he must really want his lunch I thought. The terrain was turning into the hill so I started taking big strides, I was gaining speed fast. I glanced behind me, only to find the cheetah was also gaining speed and taking big strides. Now I could feel the cheetahs smelly breath on my back, I started to sweat. Suddenly I couldn’t feel the cheetahs breath, instead I could hear cheering. I crossed the finish line with surprise, I didn’t even realize that the finish was close!

I turned around only to see the cheetah growl in defeat and retreat into the bush. “Yes!” I shouted. I grabbed a sausage, the cheetah could have just had one too!!!

Green Pastures Camp 2nd-4th March 2015

Camp is amazing, If you go there are a few things you should know:
1.Give everything a try.
2.Have fun.
3.Try to make your dorm spotless or this happens:

There are lots of activities at Green Pastures such as The mud run, rifle shooting, archery, raft building, cooking, kayaking and the team initiatives course. This is all of them and how they are done:

THE MUD RUN!DSC_4620.JPG

The messiest activity on camp!! It looks VERY gross but once you’re in
you don’t want to come out. My advice - go for it and find the muddiest path possible.

Raft building.

My favourite activity was raft building. In our group it was Boys vs Girls. Our raft worked! Then we got tired and so we tried to flip it but there was one problem, our raft was unsinkable!!!

Archery

Yes I’ve hit the target.
Archery is seems easy enough but it’s really not. All you do is set up to the target, make sure nobody is in front of you, string the arrow, aim, pullback the string and… Release!

Kayaking

20150302_132624.jpg

Hop into your kayak,(be sure to wear a life jacket), balance yourself, now you’ve done the easiest part of kayaking. Next you will notice that your oars paddles are on different angles, it’s ok it’s not broken! To actually go through the water you need to put a paddle in the water (make sure it’s flat) push it through the water, lift it, twist it, and put the other paddle in the water and repeat. Once you’ve done that practice for a while before you go out very far.

Air rifle shooting

20150302_140914.jpg

Slip on some safety glasses and grab one of the rifles. Break the gun by pushing down the barrel you will see a little hole load a bullet with the sharp end in first. Then push the barrel down even further until you hear a click (may need an adults help).Fix the gun and you are ready to go so point the gun at the target (make sure nobody is in front of you). Make the little point at the end aim at the target and pull the trigger if you're expecting a big bang don’t because there’s just a little click!

There are some more activities on camp but I don’t want to Spoil them and those are my favorite.
Have fun!

Tut tut tut tut tut BOOM rattle rattle tut tut tut tut BOOM!!!!! I trod up the hill while the hail of bullets the booming of shells are fired down. I duck, and sprint into the medics tent, lifting the wounded soldier off my back, and laying him down on the bed. I can hear the groaning of the other badly injured men. Then look out at the chaos happening around the cove. I look back at my trench and run. I clamber in, and all of a sudden………….. BOOM!! a shell explodes in front of the dirty trench, the shock pushes me off my feet my hands smack into the muddy floor. I push myself to my feet and move along the trench. The smell of dead bodies filled the air. All I want to do is go home. I lift my head, the firing has stopped. The commander yells it’s time again to bury the dead. I’ve made it through another day.

My favourite thing to do

LEGO

I have loved LEGO since I was 4, which was a looooong time ago. Now I have a very big collection. I play with LEGO nearly every day.

One reason I like LEGO is because I can just let my imagination run free to do almost anything.
Another reason I like LEGO is because my favorite movies like Starwars, Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit and others, LEGO builds them all so I can make my own version of anything.

Here are some of my creations and sets.

Dear Mr Kennedy

Don’t stop GRi11 kids managing our own learning, it gives us responsibility and a choice in when we do it (with a deadline).

This year has been way more fun than any other years, because I have had a choice in where and when I do things. Managing my own learning has also helped me advance in my learning, because I can do a task when I am inspired it’s hard to do something well if you don’t want to.

Stopping us from managing our own learning will also affect some of the school as well, because classes like room 12/13 are also trying something similar. If we do keep doing this and it turns out to be a good thing then it could change the way we learn.

Talk to any children in room 10/11 or 12/13 and they will say that we want to keep it going.
Other schools around the country have been trying it and getting really good results. Look at how big, successful and creative Google is and then look at their office it is very similar to our class. They have a comfortable, fun, creative space that helps them, just like our class.

So please do not stop us managing our own learning!!!!!!!

Lyrics to "work"

I got work I gotta do
So I'ma gonn' work work work till the end of school
I got a brain I gotta feed,
oh look look look theres the bell
I got work!!

All this work piled up on my desk
This is all looking like mount everest'
All of GRI11 is run’in around
I can hear their stomachs growl
I hope the bell rings now
if it dosent I will growl
teacher said gonna put me in detention if I don't finsh this today
TODAY oh no,oh no,oh no, oh no
lets work, lets work, lets work, lets work
oh no,oh no,oh no, oh no

I got work I gotta do
So I'm gonn' work, work, work till the end of school
I got a brain gotta feed
oh look look look theres the bell
I got work

Woke up from my day dream with a surprise
Stumped my toe on the edge of the table
Opened the mini fridge my drinks all ice!
c’mon everybody, lets get a move on!
Picked up my pen got no ink
the sun shine’in gotta wear a hat
My honey sandwich gone cold and stale
Praying that my work will get through
oh no, oh no,oh no, oh no
lets work, lets work, lets work, lets work
c’mon, lets work ,c’mon , lets work

I got work I gotta do
So I'm gonn' work, work, work till the end of school
I got a brain gotta feed
oh look look look theres the bell
I got work!

And my shoes, my shoes
I said my shoes!
there all wet!! Soaked through to the socks

I got work I gotta do
So I'm gonn' work, work, work till the end of school
I got a brain I gotta feed
oh look look look theres the bell
I got work.
I gotta do
So I'm gonn' work, work, work till the end of school
I got a brain I gotta feed
oh look look look theres the bell
I got work!
