This Thursday the 10th, the BATTLE OF THE BANDS will be held in the College Street Normal School auditorium. The bands there will be, Russel Street, Roslyn, Mt Biggs, College Street and more. There will be intermediate and primary schools. It will be awesome!

1800 - 1899

Schools have changed majorly since 1800!

In 1800 the schools were very different instead of classes there was a school house (a hall that’s used as a class). Everybody sat in straight rows with one small fire in the middle of the class to heat the room. The teacher would stand up the front of the room and teach. There would also be big classes of about 40 kids. The school house would usually be 4 -5 miles away from their houses, which was considered a walking distance for the kids. In some classes the lessons would be different for some older students, but mainly everybody got the same lessons. Hygiene was poor because many students had no lunch and everybody drank water from one bucket. If you behaved bad your minimum punishment was holding a heavy book for 1hr!

1900 - 1949

The schools hadn’t changed much since the 1800’s. The classes were still big and had a fireplace, but now the often used punishment was the strap or the cane, which hurt a lot more!

1950 - 1999

Most of the public in England was uneducated in 1950 because of WW2, school was only 2p a week but it was still too much of a fee for families, they even gave prizes to students who came every week, another thing that made it hard was the minimum leaving school age was raised to 12 years old.

2000 - 2015

Schools are evolving fast many schools are trialing MLE (modern learning environments). It means we can manage our own learning and we plan our learning! But it works in different ways for different people

I think that schooling has evolved for the better, if it hasn’t, at least I won’t get the cane!

Tree house luck

After the C.S.N.S Gala I went to Jobe's house to continue work with the tree house, it is made out of crates any recycled wood so it's not the best but it works. It includes a built in jail to the side, a opening roof a 1st and 2nd storey and a plank to the trampoline. It is growing fast but my bad luck is not helping. It all started when I was hammering in one nail, I was in a very awkward position so it was hard. But first I hammered my thumb I hurt so I dropped the nail and then I got mad because I dropped the nail and then I dropped the wood, which just made me more mad! When I had finally got the nail I repeated the same thing with frustration I just moved on to making the jail door, I hit the nail once then I smashed my fingers so I needed to let off some steam (running around to make it not hurt so much) . But when I was getting off the treehouse I got a huge splinter so I sprinted inside, ripped off the skin pulled the splinter and shoved my hand under the tap. But unfortunately it was extremely hot water so I yelped and it just hurt more! But I gave the bad luck to Jobe when he kept hitting his fingers and when he was walking on a plank to the tramp it snapped and he fell! And nothing happened to me. So thats what I did on the weekend.

Evolution of back pack writing

THE FUTURE STORY

“Argh” I groaned as I woke up and realized that I to go to to school. I really did not want to go to school. I got up and noticed that something was seriously different with my room. Everything was white and even my PJ’s were, I saw a large rectangle on the other side of the room that I thought was a dresser. I walked over and touched it looking for a handle, it slid out of the wall without a noise. “Wow” I said leaping back. It was full of clothes I picked some I liked and put them on. I looked up and noticed that there was no door. I got up and started touching the walls, looking for an exit. I heard a noise and turned around, a small opening had appeared I slipped out looking around. It wasn’t much different to the room. It was all white with no windows. Suddenly somebody was talking to me “Get ready for school 245” 245 “WHAT... IS THAT MY NAME!” I accidentally shouted. “What do you mean?” the voice replied I then heard a WRRRR, and a half man, half robot ‘thing’ came at me. “AH!” I screamed “Do you not remember me?” It asked “I’m 198…… I.. am your father!…..” (DUN DUN DUN)

OK I thought, assess the situation, you are in the future and you have to go to school, your dad’s a cyborg and you don’t know anything. Solution: Just go with it…. “Ok” I replied, “I’ll go to school”..

I looked for a bag... There were none. “Here” my new cyborg dad said handing me a small flat thing. “Um” I said inspecting the object, I poked it and it beeped giving me a fright. It showed an apple sign, “oh” I said looking at the screen. “Now go to school!” he said. “WHERE IS THE DOOR??” I shouted in frustration. “Just stand on that pad” he said. I walked onto the glowing pad on the other side of the room and suddenly I was at something that I thought resembled a school. I stood off the pad looking back at it. Must be teleportation I thought, I turned and walked towards the building.

The day was very strange at first It started with getting to my class. I thought it would be hard. But I soon realized there was only one class! I walked, in there were desks with small walls dividing them, I floated around passing by children working on their ipads. I noticed that there were names on all of the stalls…… 241, 242, 243, 244, 245! I sat down at my stall wondering what to do, I looked at the ipad, and turned it on taking a breath. It flashed on.. ipad 2000 it read. It came to a home screen, I tapped the app that said ‘GOOGLE’ nothing happened I tapped it again, nothing. “Come on Google” I said, urging it to work ...”Google” the ipad said. It opened google. Voice control! I thought, cool! I looked at the options ‘Google classroom’ was the best option I thought. “Google classroom” I said, it opened.. Lots of stuff started popping up, “ANIMAL ESSAE”, “EDGE OF UNIVERSE DISCOVERED”, “ELEPHANTS EXTINCT”. Wow I thought, a lot has changed. “BING! BING! BING!” A bell sounded I jumped back startled by the noise. “Lunch” my ipad said. Today is just getting weirder and weirder I thought. A straw came out of the ipad and a tiny capsule popped out. A pill? I thought eating it, suddenly my stomach was full. “WHOA” I said out loud everybody was looking at me like I was a weirdo.

“BING! BING! BING!” The bell sounded again. That was short I thought. The ipad screen was now flashing red, ‘MATHS ASSIGNMENT DUE IN 10 MINUTES’ It read. Oh I thought this will be easy i’m good at maths. “Open” I said. A page appeared with maths on it.. There was nothing I could do… 165,245,869,473,658.98079673% X ⅖ - 103,946,837,629.4= A + B (A X B=C)

What is C . That was the easiest one.

I got home at the end of the day exhausted. I lay on my bed after a lot of trouble getting into my room, and slept….. I woke up in my own room in 2015. I didn’t know what had happened, there were so many questions in my head, was it a dream?, was it real?, how did it happen? Then I remembered something that made my stomach drop. It was Tuesday. “ARGH” I groaned. I really don’t want to go to school!
